Stamping is a processing procedure in which a force is applied to the material by the die fixed on the press to make the material split or deform, so as to get the desired part( which is generally called as a stamped part or stamping ). Not only metal materials, other materials as well, such as nonmetallic materials and compound ones, can be processed through stamping.
The main advantage of components obtained through stamping is that they do not, generally speaking, need further machining. Therefore, it is an energy-saving, as well as a raw material-saving processing that needs no or little machining. Materials used in stamping are usually strip, sheet or board materials with good surface quality.
Meanwhile, the dimensional tolerances of the stamped parts are guaranteed by the die. As a result, the products enjoy high dimensional precision and good interchangeablity. The light, ductile and thin stampings can be made into various complicated components, from a second hand of a watch, to a carling of a car.
Stamping is widely used for producing all kinds of components in many industrial departments, such as machinery manufacture, automobile production, aviation, electrical appliances, instruments and daily commodities. In these departments, stamped parts account for a comparatively large amount, with more and more parts which used to be made by moulding, forging or machining being substituted by the stamped parts. |
